Sing it with me, Pizza doughnuts in the morning-ish, pizza doughnuts in the evening-ish, pizza at supppperrrtiiiime. Well, not suppertime, because newly opened Dough Exchange in Downtown Santa Ana, CA opens from “6:30ish – 6:30ish.” Pizza and doughnut lovers rejoice, these two made a baby and it’s oh so beautiful.
Dough Exchange is located between the Yost Theater known for it’s musical acts, and The Playground known for its eclectic menu. This might be time for you to leave a full day open for downtown Santa Ana. Of course Dough Exchange would be first, for their sweet and savory doughnuts, cookies, tarts, and coffee. The only thing Dough Exchange might be missing, is ice cream to have a complete package. Dough not worry, their dough was worth our dough that was exchanged.
Three doughnut flavors that stood out was the already mentioned, Pizza doughnut, the Brownie Batter, and Vietnamese Coffee. The Pizza doughnut tasted exactly like a pizza with the cheese and marinara sauce, except the innards had the fresh doughnut softness. Pro Tip: Ask them to heat it up for you when ordering.
The brownie batter doughnut had a crisp to it, as if you bit into a brownie. These guys have their texture game on point.
Vietnamese Coffee doughnut, cà phê sữa glazed all over.
Lastly, we finished off lunch with three coconut macaroons and some doughnut holes. A single cookie is $2, and a triple is $5.
If you’re in the mood for some sweet and savory Donuts and Cookies, come to Dough Exchange in Downtown Santa Ana. Live music possibly included with your dough (Tastemade video below).
