Glazed & Infused opened up in Chicago, IL in 2012
and continues to create unique doughnuts from fresh local ingredients. They have seasonal flavors on rotation and we were lucky enough to be in the city to try their handcrafted donuts. Chef and Restaurateur Scott Harris saw how popular VooDoo Donuts in Portland and the Doughnut Plant in New York were, that he wanted to bring his own shop of that caliber to the Windy City.
The first donut we sampled was the Caramel Pumpkin Pecan donut. This is a seasonal flavor that was available throughout the month it really highlighted the pumpkin flavor. Caramel coating on top of the donut and as soon as you bite into it, you’ll discover the rich pumpkin mousse filling inside this wonderful creation. If you love pumpkin, you can’t go wrong with this choice.
Moving onto the next donut was the Apple Fritter, a special of the day. Looks different than the traditional apple fritters you see in many donut shops, but the taste was spot on. Filled with chunks of apples and swirls of cinnamon, this apple fritter ranks up there with the best of the best.
Another seasonal donut we had to try was the Seedling Apple Cider cake donut. A cake donut made with apple cider and coated with cinnamon sugar. A seasonal twist to the traditional cake donut.
Last but not least, Glazed & Infused’s latest creation is the Ham and Cheddar donut. A sweet and savory combo made with Beeler’s Ham, roasted garlic, local cheddar, and finished with a honey mustard glaze. It might sound a little weird at first, but once you take that first bite into it, your taste buds will realize that everything works and it is pretty addicting.
